The Role

Cloudsmith's documentation is one of our most cited differentiators, and this role exists to help us keep the bar high as we scale. You'll join our documentation team, working alongside our Senior Technical Writer, to document our platform: package registries, artifact management, software supply chain security, and the wider DevSecOps ecosystem, helping developers become experts in it.

Reporting to our senior technical writer, this is a hands-on writing role. You'll take primary ownership of documenting specific product areas, working closely with product and engineering to understand features before they ship, and with customer success and sales to understand where existing docs fall short. You'll make sure documentation is ready by the time a feature ships, and that documentation is treated as a critical part of the user experience.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation creation & content development

• Write documentation for new products and features, working directly with engineers to understand functionality before it ships

• Write guides and best-practice content for customers and users

• Create and manage supporting multimedia assets (screenshots, short-form video) for existing documentation formats

Editorial & publishing

• Review, edit, and publish documentation contributions from others

• Manage and publish content to Cloudsmith's changelog

Cross-functional collaboration

• Partner with product managers to flag documentation needs early enough to publish alongside releases, not after

• Work with customer success and sales to identify where documentation is causing friction or falling short so we can continually improve it

• Work with Cloudsmith's partners to ensure we show up in their documentation and it's accurate

Ownership & product knowledge

• Own prioritization of a backlog of content improvements, including the thought and reasoning behind now / next / later

• Be a genuinely informed user of Cloudsmith's product, features, and integrations

Required Experience, Qualities & Skills

• 5+ years of technical writing experience, preferably for an audience of software developers

• Proficient in HTML and Markdown

• Comfortable with "docs as code" and git-based version control workflows

• Working familiarity with package management, artifact registries, or DevOps toolchains (npm, Docker, Maven, Terraform, or similar)

• Clear, precise technical communicator

• Curious, motivated to learn quickly, comfortable asking engineers "why" until you actually understand a feature
